DRJ #4 Hamlets: Act IV/V

DRJ #4 Hamlets: Act IV/V

Initial Reaction: In politics, careers, or family traditions there are always in some cases of people with the urge to make something of them selves. Keeping up with there title to advance or to live on with what there loved one has presented. There is a time when they pass off or retire for the next person to take there place but when things takes a turn to not to be able to that’s when planning comes to make that a reality.

Character Analysis: Fortinbras, Laertes, and Hamlet all have something in common. There are all men who loved there father’s dearly. Fortinbras a Prince of Norway wanted to seek revenge on Denmark to take over the land that Hamlet father fought and won. Hamlet hurt and angry at the fact he never gotten that choice to lead Denmark. Claudius took that title right up underneath him. Laetres looked up to his dad and how his death made him so angry he wanted to kill the very well man who murdered his father. All men who had a motive to gain what they felt should have been there’s.

Theme Analysis: Ambition is a clear theme. All these men were driven in some way to fulfill the shoes of there father. All the anger that possessed the Princes and Laertes about the fighting, pain, and foolery it foiled the story to its end. Hamlet and Fortinbras wanting to lead and take back what they felt was there’s. It has set the tone of deceit and madness. Laertes a respected man who was overthrown with emotions of his sister and father passing really fueled his rage of getting justice for all the pain he experienced. or example when the captain of Norway was sent to by Fortinbras to get lead way through Denmark to "supposedly" attack Poland, Hamlet (Jr.) took it a proud Prince fighting for what he wants. Act IV, Scene IV Hamlets states, “This thing’s to do,” Sith I have cause and will and strength and means To do ’t. Examples gross as earth exhort me.Witness this army of such mass and charge Led by a delicate and tender prince, Whose spirit with divine ambition puffed Makes mouths at the invisible event, Exposing what is mortal and unsure. To all that fortune, death, and danger dare, Even for an eggshell(Hamlet pg.1657).”

DRJ #3: Hamlet, Act III

DRJ #3: Hamlet, Act III

Initial reaction: Ophelia suicide was a turning point of grief and pain. To this I observed a lot about of people who’ve felt life is not important and perform a suicide. Don Cornelius a well knows TV host of the Soul Train show reportedly performed suicide. It became a shock to everyone. The emotions people go through mentally of not feeling love, depression, pain, and stress from there environment. The thought process of configuring is it all worth it to stay in this earth realm. I really feel people get fed up of seeing hurt or the way the life has become and wanted to end it to get peace.

Character Analysis: Hamlet fidgeting ways of processing life and death. Act III, scene 1 “To be, or not to be? That is the question—whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And, by opposing, end them?” Is it worth the while to stay in the current state of mind and deal with people and all that they bring forth to the table or is it easier to kill yourself and have a peace of mind of not dealing with life (Hamlet, pg. 1631)?

Theme Analysis: It’s a Time/ Mortality thing going on. Hamlet taking all this time and making is plan to catch the murderer fall to what he don’t to his father. There is a lot talking, watching, but no action to performing. Hamlet made a whole play to read off his uncle and his mom actions of guilt.  Later in the story Ophelia mindset became boggled with hurt. Ophelia was singing, crying, yelling, and mourning of her father death. It led to her suicide of drowning herself. To me all that time a person stay with there self you never know what they are capable of doing to themselves to feel a sense of comfort.

DRJ#1: Hamlet, Act 1

DRJ#1: Hamlet, Act 1

Initial reaction:
I was in a confused state of mind. I was wandering if I was able to understand all the fast talking and terms that Hamlet and others used. I saw that Ophelia a woman who loved Hamlet prince of Denmark. As in any situation that’s similar to this is basically Hamlet was royalty and high up in the Chain. Ophelia is not allowed to mess with him in any physical way because she is a lower class. She falls in love with him and he also felt a strong love for her because of the love letters. However, Ophelia father and brother did not want her around him. They felt that he was a liar and that whatever feeling he had or spoken was a lie. Polonius which is her father and Laertes who’s her brother tries to protect her and hopes that she is not naive to Hamlet. I related to a little to this based on if my father felt any kind a way by any boy or man who he felt wasn’t good enough, I could not talk to them. My father is an over protective and sometimes on a consistent basis he’s always keeping tabs on me to make sure that I am not giving those guys the time and day.

Character Analysis:
Polonius was a trusted aid to the King and royal family. He’s always been there to help and guide them to what business they had to address. He was a father and a very proud man who believed in honor and loyalty. The love for his daughter was a typical situation. He always wanted the best for his daughter. I found that even though he was a father and he was overprotective he did too much in asking his daughter to give back the love letters that Hamlet wrote. He felt like Hamlet was unstable and that he needed major help. He’s an antagonist character but he did cause tension between his daughter and Hamlet. Hamlet felt portrayed by Ophelia. On the other hand she was doing what her father had asked her. Hamlet could not stand Polonius and Polonius was a well trusted friend to the King Claudius and he would do any thing to satisfy him. Polonius was used as a foil to shine light on how Hamlet was reacting to his father’s death

Theme Analysis:
Family and love was a clear notice with Polonius. He loved his son and daughter and would say or guide to whatever they duty is to be. He’s been around for so long the royalty family. He knows how to manipulate and inform Claudius about his nephew. The King listened to Polonius in Act 1 and has shared his love for his daughter Ophelia and his son. There was some symbolism the love letters that represent Hamlets love for his daughter and imagery of the emotions and love he shows her by the kiss and strong hug when Hamlet had a moment when he felt portrayed.

DRJ#2/ Hamlet, Act 2

Initial reaction:

Two men named Rosencrantz and Guildenstern came to Denmark to see Hamlet. Hamlet was stoked to see arrive and they was very cheerful to see him. Child hood friends who were close and I can tell that they really were looking out for Hamlet best interest.

Character Analysis: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were a very smart to Hamlet. They found out that Hamlet father passed and wanted to be there for him. Yet, they were sent there to check on Hamlet because of his behavior. The loud outbursts and actions he was portraying around the royal family. Hamlet was a smart man and he knew that his friends came to also keep an eye on him.

Theme Analysis: The theme had friendship and a little deceit. Although, Hamlet friends followed him around and was a support system to his plan at the end of the say there original motive wasn’t loyal. Hamlet say “Why, any thing, but to the purpose. You were sent for; and there is a kind confession in your looks which your modesties have not craft enough to colour: I know the good king and queen have sent for you (HAMLET1622).” These two friends admitted why they really came after and felt bad but wanted to fix the situation. Hamlets friends decide to flip the original plan to watch over him and assisted his marvelous plan to expose the killing of his father.
